For Our Customers

Craft & Timepiece Resources

A short list of sites the people of this shop actually read — from woodworking references to the fine timepieces we keep an eye on after hours.

Why We Keep This List

This shop has run on the same principle since 1983: learn the trade, keep your references, and don't recommend what you haven't looked at yourself. Over the years customers have asked what we read, what we follow, and where we look when they need a second opinion on a material or a maker.

So this page holds the short answer. It is not a directory, and nothing here is sponsored — it is the list we keep on the bench in Sharbot Lake, and it stays deliberately small. When one of these sites falls out of our hands, it comes off the page.

Woodworking & Craft

  • Canadian Woodworking — the Canadian woodworking magazine; the practical reference for native hardwoods and shop practice.
  • Horology — the long history of timekeeping, from water clocks to the modern mechanical movement. Good reading for anyone who has ever wanted to understand a watch.
  • The Wooden Watchmaker — clocks carved entirely from wood, documented one build at a time. Our favourite bench-time project for the winter.

Fine Timepieces

One of the questions we get most often is a gift question: a hand-carved sign is not always the right present, and for the watch enthusiast on the list we keep a running reference.

  • clonewatches.io — the current reference we keep for the clone and replica market; the layout makes it easy to compare references at a glance.
  • Rolex — for the customer who asks specifically about Rolex, we point them to the rolex super clone watches section; it is the one the bench actually checks.
  • Watchuseek — a long-running enthusiast forum; useful for hearing how collectors talk about specifications and value.
  • Antiquora — a vetted marketplace for vintage and pre-owned pieces.

Still deciding on a gift, or starting a sign of your own? We're a phone call away.
